Since the first lockdown, subscriptions to wine clubs, wine deliveries and general wine consumption has shot up at a remarkable rate. Since we’re drinking so much more of the stuff, we might as well brush up on the subject! This week I chose to book an online Argentine Wine Class with local Buenos Aires sommelier, Diego.
After selecting one of Aldi’s best Malbecs I was ready to get my wine on, with the class kicking off at 8pm. Diego began with an introduction to the main wine regions of Argentina, covering the best wineries in Salta, Mendoza, Rio Negro, and the cool climate wines found in Patagonia. There were five groups of participants in the class, and we all discussed what we were drinking and the flavour notes – but you definitely didn’t need to know loads about wine to take part!
Diego is clearly an expert on the subject and knew detailed information about each wine, even obscure German blends and French Chardonnays. He was a fantastic advert for Argentine wine, and gave us loads of advice about grape varieties, food pairings, and what to look for when shopping Argentinian wine. Did you know there’s such thing as a white Pinot Noir?
The wine class was laidback and entertaining with plenty of laughs and useful tips, great for a chilled out evening in lockdown!
