Bountiful in indigenous fynbos and coastal forests, this natural area is only accessible by ferry, and your excursion begins by cruising on the Knysna lagoon to reach the reserve. Once on land, hop into a 4x4 for a drive up the headland, stopping for some spectacular viewpoints of the surrounding areas along the way. Finally, join your specialist guide for a nature walk into the ancient sea caves, as you learn all about Knysna’s history and its flora and fauna.

The privately-owned Featherbed Nature Reserve is a pristine piece of land situated on the Western Head of Knysna and is only accessible by ferry.
A 3-hour excursion departs daily including a ferry cruise, 4x4 vehicle drive and a 2,2 km guided nature walk. The views are breath-taking, and the knowledgeable nature guides will share their insights of the area, fauna and flora.
A must-do trip while in Knysna and suitable for young and old. Good walking shoes are recommended as well as cameras, hats, sunblock in summer and a warm jacket in winter on the ferry.
This excursion includes:
- Return ferry cruise on the Knysna Lagoon to the Featherbed Nature Reserve
- 4×4 vehicle drive up the headland on Reserve, stopping at spectacular viewpoints
- Specialist guide offering information on Knysna’s history, fauna & flora
- Optional guided 2.2 km nature walk through coastal forest and fynbos into ancient sea caves
All our excursions require a minimum number of 10 guests before we can depart.
Please note that no children will be permitted to sit on parents’ laps. Children regardless of age, is classified as a seat.
No unaccompanied minors are permitted.
Changes to reservations for tickets can be made until 4 days prior to the date scheduled. Reservations may be re-scheduled by the operator of the activity due to reasons such as weather, minimum participation requirements, mechanical issues or other interruptions beyond their control.
