Plettenberg Bay Shallow House Reefs Dive

There are a variety of shallow house reefs which are only a short swim from the shore directly in front of the dive centre, alive with marine life – a photographer’s paradise!

DURATION & WHAT TO EXPECT: 

2 hours 
You will be met on arrival by our experienced Dive Guide who will sign you in & assist with fitting your Scuba & Snorkel gear (changing rooms & lockers are available on site). Once you are all kitted up, you will receive a full dive briefing from your dive guide. Thereafter we enter by shore for a short swim to our dive site for a 45 minute relaxing dive. On arrival back at ProDive, our facilities include changing rooms & shower where you can freshen up after your amazing dive experience.

THE DIVE SITES:

Redbait Reef: 
Depth: 6–9m
Redbait Reef is Plettenberg Bay’s house reef, it is a delightful introduction to the area & conditions. Juvenile reef fish, cuttlefish & shysharks are regularly spotted amongst the colourful anemones, urchins & sponges. Easily accessible from the shore this site offers lots of natural light for photography & is suitable for beginners.

Shallow Blinders:
Depth: 10–13m
A short swim from the shore in Plettenberg Bay lies a trio of pinnacles that is a photographer’s paradise! This large reef is home to many fish species & is a nursery in the summer months. Summer also brings the ragged-tooth sharks to this reef; however pajama sharks, leopard sharks & puffadder shy sharks are spotted all year round. Sightings of rays, cuttlefish & boxfish on the swim out are common & nudibranchs, octopus, sea spiders & scorpion fish inhabit the reef itself, making it ideal for macro photography.

The Wall:
Depth: 10–13m
As part of the Blinders reef, The Wall is worth the slightly further swim. Rising from 10m to just below the surface & covered in many species & colours of soft coral – Strawberry Anemones share space with Blue Choirboys, Orange Wall Sponge & multi-colour coral, painting a dramatic underwater landscape.
