Plettenberg Bay Shallow Reef Dive Experience

Plettenberg Bay has a variety of spectacular shallow reefs only a 5 minute boat ride from the beach. These shallow sites showcase the colour & beauty of Plett diving & the beauty of the Eastern Cape reefs. The Sea fans are draped in Basket Stars & groups of Shysharks rest in the rocky crevices. Large Red Roman, Zebras & Blacktail share space with numerous species of nudibranchs, orange wall sponge & purple soft coral making for a fireworks display of colour! Our most popular dive site is Jacob's reef characterized by a large pinnacle & spectacular wall dive covered in soft corals.

You will be met on arrival by our experienced Dive Guide who will sign you in & assist with fitting your Scuba & Snorkel gear (changing rooms & lockers are available on site). Once everyone has geared up, the group will take a short stroll on the beach to the boat where you be given a briefing by the skipper & dive guide on boat procedures & the dive site, before embarking on a short boat ride to one of the shallow dive sites. You will then get to jump into the water with your guide for an exhilarating 45 minute dive. On arrival back at ProDive, our facilities include changing rooms & showers where you can freshen up after completing your dive. 

The choice of shallow dive site will be decided on the day based on the weather & sea conditions.

THE DIVE SITES:

Jacobs Reef:
Depth: 10–16m
A 5 min boat ride from the Beacon Island Hotel & is characterized by a large pinnacle, Jacob’s is a spectacular wall dive covered in soft coral. This shallower site showcases the colour & beauty of Plett diving & the beauty of the Eastern Cape reefs. The Sea fans are draped in Basket Stars & groups of Shysharks rest in the rocky crevices. Large Red Roman, Zebras & Blacktail share space with numerous species of nudibranchs, orange wall sponge & purple soft coral making for a fireworks display of colour!

Dolphins Column:
Depth: 14–16m
This reef is populated by multitudes of sea fans, sea stars & sponges with nudibranchs, reef fish & octopus being regularly viewed.

Deep Blinders:
Depth: 13–16m
This colourful reef is located on the seaward of the pinnacles where healthy coral growth supports the many fish species that reside on the reef & rays are often spotted on the sand beside the reef.

• Max Temperature: 20/22 degrees Celsius (December/January)
