Experience Overview:
Private Tour: Robben Island And 2 Wine Tastings In ConstantiaCape Town is one of the rare cities in the world that is blessed with natural wonders, beautiful Fauna and Flaura as well as scenic landscapes and of course, GOOD wine. You will really love this tour.

South African wine industry date back in 1600s. The first vineyards were planted in the Western Cape when South Africa’s very first European settlers arrived in the 17th Century. The first Governor of the Cape, Simon van der Stel, is widely credited with bringing winemaking to the region in the 1600s and setting up a wine estate in Constantia. He planted a vineyard in 1655, and on 2 February 1659, the first wine was made from Cape grapes.
A visit to the popular Cape Winelands – which feature wine estates that date back hundreds of years, wine tasting, wine making, good food and spectacular scenery – is a must.

Robben Island and its prison buildings symbolize the triumph of the human spirit, of freedom and of democracy over oppression. The remains on the island as a landscape reflect the history of the island since the 17th century and all the attributes that convey its value.
As you make your way through the corridors of the prison on Robben Island, you get transported to a painful time in South African history. Standing in the jail cell that housed Nelson Mandela for so many years makes the emotional story of the South African struggle for democracy and equality hit home.
A trip to Robben Island is a bittersweet experience, but it is highly recommended to anyone visiting Cape Town.
NB.- Please note that your Tour Guide will not be with you on the ferry to Robben Island. The Museum has it own guides (former prisoners)

After you are done with Robben Island tour, your guide will pick you up and you will head to Constantia.
In 1685 Commissioner of the VOC Hendrik Adriaan van Rheede visited the Cape for three months and during this trip, he granted Van der Stel the title to a farm, obviously for his services to the Dutch East India Company, that Van der Stel duly named ‘Constantia’, to honour the memory of Van Rheede’s daughter. A variety of vineyards were soon laid out on this land and a labour force of slaves worked the harvest
Van der Stel then built a grand homestead on his new farm, and was busily planting 70 000 grape vines, like Muscadel and Steen. Unfortunately, Van Der Stel died before his efforts bore fruit and. After Van der Stel’s death his Constantia estate was divided into two portions, namely Great and Little Constantia and sold ‘for the benefit of his heirs’.
