They also pass through the Penguin Colony at Betty's Bay where they can see the flightless birds. Grabouw is a town located in the Western Cape province of South Africa. The racial make up of this town consists of Black Africans, Colored, Indian/Asian and the White community.
It is situated 65 km south-east of Cape Town along the N2 freeway, over Sir Lowry's Pass from Somerset West. The town is the commercial center for the vast Elgin Valley with thriving farming communities.

In 2001 the population census listed the number at 21 593 people. Grabouw is surrounded by the Hottentots Holland and Groenland mountains to the north and the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve to the south.

Elgin is a large, lush area of land surrounded by mountains, in the overberg region of South Africa. Lying about 70km southeast of Cape Town over the Hottentots Holland mountains form the city .
The Elgin Valley is known for successfully farming of 60% of the national apple crop. Hence it has been dubbed as the place "where the apples come from".

Recently a shift in economic focus has led to Elgin also becoming one of South Africa's most notable and successful wine regions, with the coolest climate of any region in the country. Consequently Elgin wines and tourism have become significant parts of the valley's economy

This is a quaint seaside town southeast of Cape Town in South Africa's Western Cape province. It is a global whale watching destination.
It draws thousands of tourists annually. Beaches include Voelklip Beach, and the broad Grotto Beach, overlooking the Walker Bay. The Old Harbor Museum is a site encompasing the old harbor, a fisherman's village and the Whale House Museum.

Tourists flock to this town between June and December for whale watching. The whales which normally visit the south African coast in this town are the Humpback Whale, Southern Right and the Brydes Whales.

Tourists can view the whales along the 11km coastal walking trail which takes them past some strategic positions on the shores. Whales are normally seen gliding in couples a stone's throw away from the beach. This is a great experience in the life of most of the tourists who go on whale watching in Hermanus.

Tourists are also spoiled for choice with many restaurants lining the beaches and few hotels.

Stony Point Nature Reserve

Nestled in the quaint town of Betty's Bay in the Overberg, the Stony Point Nature Reserve is home to a unique colony of African Penguins.
Stony point offers the public an opportunity to view these adorable flightless birds up close via the boardwalk without disturbing them as they go about their daily activities in their natural habitat.

Present in the colony are also three species of cormorant, the Crowned Cormorant, Cape Cormorant and Bank Cormorant. They all breed on the outer rocks. There are also Hartlaub's Gulls and Kelp Gulls which forage in the colony.

The Rock Hyrax can also be seen on the surrounding rocks The colony lies on the site of the old Waaygat Whaling Station, which was used to harvest and process whale meat in the early to mid 1900s.

This nature reserve is home to roughly 3 600 penguins.
