Start Your Own Hive Hands On Beekeeping Class In TexasHave you taken an intro to beekeeping class and you're ready to take your education to the next level? Then this class is for you! Experience how to inspect a honey bee hive - perfect for new beekeepers, or those preparing to start their own hives soon. Learn how, when, and why you should conduct hive inspections. We will discuss seasonal considerations, what's 'normal' and what's not, get an introduction to common hive pests, and we will learn the basics of lighting a smoker. If you own a smoker, feel free to bring yours to practice!
After suiting up in protective gear, we will spend time performing a hive inspection as a group. You will learn how to identify honey bee eggs, larvae, and pupae, and everyone will be given time to practice handling and moving hive bodies and frames during the inspection. This is a hands-on class, so get ready to handle frames of bees!
We cap this class at 12 students total to allow you the best opportunity for a truly hands-on experience!
Things to Know
This class requires basic knowledge of bee behavior and biology. Brand new to bees and beekeeping? Check out our Intro to Beekeeping classes to ensure you are prepared!
What to Bring
Wear long sturdy pants, a sturdy long-sleeve shirt, and closed-toe shoes that cover the ankle are required. Sunscreen is recommended. If you have your own protective gear, hive tool, or smoker, please bring those too!

Arriving
Please arrive 10-15 minutes before your activity begins.
Location: Two Hives Honey, 7617 Nez Perce Trace, Manor, TX 78653. When you arrive, follow the road to the right and park at the red barn at the back of the property. You will check in for your class inside the honey bar.
What to Bring
Closed-toed shoes that cover the ankle are REQUIRED. Wear long sturdy pants and bring along a sturdy long-sleeve shirt. Sunscreen is recommended. Please bring any equipment that you have - smoker, protective gear and hive tool. We have a few to borrow, but prefer you use your own if you have them.
