Experience Overview:

Private Savannah Medical History Walking Tour

This is Savannah's only walking tour that covers Savannah's lengthy medical history from plagues that almost destroyed the fledgling colony, to a pandemic a century later that seemingly passed over the city's enslaved population, to the foundation of a soft drink giant. Given by a working Registered Nurse the tour attempts to be an inclusive look at the contributions the city's multi-ethnic population made to medicine and the city's survival.
I'm still in our first year, and were recently featured on Georgia Public Broadcasting.

Excellent for people at all interested in public health

I went with my girlfriend and we're giant medical and public health nerds and thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Matthew connected his own experiences as a nurse with the history of Savannah's history. He was extremely friendly and it was a very pleasant morning walking through the historical district as he told stories from across several centuries. My girlfriend was doubtful that a 9:30 AM start time on Saturday for a tour would be worth it...but she raved about it!

Fun tour!

I tried this tour out of curiosity. I am not into the medical field but love history. The tour moved along at an easy pace and our guide pointed out bits of info between stops. Thanks for giving me a different perspective of Savannah and its past.

A new way to see Savannah

Whenever I visit a new place, I love to learn about its history. I’ve lived in Savannah a few years now, but I’m still finding out new facts. There are lots of tours one can take but only a handful are actually informative and historically accurate. Matt’s own medical background informs the guided walking tour. We made stops near medically significant spots around the Historic District. It was a fascinating new perspective to see the city.

interesting and entertaining medical. history tour

Matt was an extremely knowledgeable and friendly storyteller, guiding us through a fascinating history of medical and public health events and people through Savannah's history. This was a pleasant morning tour in which we got to know the history of the city from a different angle than the other commercial tours on offer in town. Matt is an animated host and kept us entertained for two hours as we walked through this wonderful town.
