FAQ

Activity FAQs

Is there parking near the tour meeting point?
Yes, there is public parking located between 8th and 9th Avenue just north of Las Olas Boulevard. There is also private parking behind the Riverside Hotel off 8th Avenue. Specific parking details are included in the meeting location directions once tickets are purchased.

How much walking is involved? Is it a fast-paced tour?
Tours generally last from 2 1/2 hours to 3 hours and participants can expect to be standing or walking for a majority of the time. We walk at a moderate pace and at many of the locations we do sit down to eat. Please do wear comfortable walking shoes.

Can I shop during the tour?
We ask that you please wait to shop until after the tour so that we can stay on our food stops schedule and continue with the informative tour and food tastings in a timely manner. We ask you to allow time at the end of the tour to return to your favorite locations and/or stores. The tours are on a schedule to arrive at each tasting location, so it is important to stay on schedule as the food is freshly prepared for the participants.

How much food is served on the food tour?
With the combination of drink and food tastings combined with breaks for architectural, cultural, and historical insight most participants are comfortably full after our food tour. Please understand our food tour is not intended to replace breakfast and lunch combined, so please consider eating a light breakfast before the tour. For most participants, lunch afterwords is not necessary.

What if I have dietary restrictions or allergies?
Please be sure and let us know if you or anyone in your group has a dietary restriction (e.g. vegetarian, allergies.) When you purchase your tickets. As long as we know in advance, we can accommodate your needs.

What about taking children on the tour?
While we offer both adult and children tickets, the tour is 3 hours long and some children have a limited attention span, and therefore the tour may not be appropriate for all of them. Parents who know their children best, should assess the situation individually. Since there is a lot of standing and walking, please consider this when making the choice whether the tour is appropriate for your children.

Is the tour wheelchair and baby stroller accessible?
The Las Olas Food Tour is baby stroller friendly; however, wheelchair accessibility may be difficult due to the narrow sidewalks.

Does the tour leader accept gratuities?
YES. Gratuities are not included in the ticket price and are greatly appreciated by your Tour Guide. The standard gratuity in the service industry is 18%.

What happens if it rains?
The tours are held in rain or shine. In the event that it rains, we will be able to go inside many of the establishments on the tour. However, we advise you to check the weather conditions for the day that you have booked and dress appropriately, and bring ponchos and umbrellas as needed.

Is wine tasting included on the tour?
There may be wine provided at one of stops, however you may definitely order any beverages on your own tab as soon as we arrive at each stop. This gives you enough time to enjoy your wine/cocktail.

What types of food is served on the tour? Do we walk around and sample food?
The Las Olas Food Tour provides architectural commentary, historical facts, local culture, and culinary insight into a unique 3-hour experience. Food is provided from specialty food shops and local restaurants, we do not walk around and sample food. For a better idea of what types of restaurants we will visit, please check out their websites below.

Does the tour end at the same place we meet?
No, but it does end just two blocks away and on the other side of the street from the meeting point.

A Tour Like Never Before

Treat your family and friends to a one-of-a-kind tour that they will remember for years to come. On our food tasting tour, we take our guests to various preselected restaurants for a bite to eat. In between the tastings, you will learn all about the interesting history of Las Olas and Fort Lauderdale.

Four years ago, I was introduced to the tour and travel industry by a dear friend, and I now tour guide in the tri-county area and Alaska for various top-of-the-line tour companies. I looked into a Food Tour company on South Beach where the owner taught me so many great things...and knew right away that being a food tour guide would take me back to my first love...FOOD!

Being a native of the island of Jamaica and having both lived and worked guiding tours in southern and in central Florida, throughout the interior of Alaska, in southwestern Europe, and in the eastern and western Caribbean during the past 48 years, I have the benefit of multi-cultural influences that help me to connect with my guests no matter where they might be visiting from. My background in sales and marketing for an internationally based graphic arts firm, as well as having owned and operated a promotional products distributorship over a 23 year period, have prepared me for the everyday tasks of leading group tours.

Tour Directing in Florida, the northeast, the Caribbean as well throughout the Alaskan interior has permitted me the opportunity to fulfill my dream of working on the front lines in the exciting world of customized leisure travel and escorted tours. It has also given me direct hands-on experience in the handling of all logistical requirements, the delivery of commentary, narration and entertainment value for all of my guests. This experience in managing both large and small groups has taught me the importance of having a flexible style of touring while providing me with a solid foundation and firsthand knowledge of my profession.
