What to expect:

In 1859, gold was discovered in Clear Creek, which runs through Golden and into the mountains. Miners and prospectors flooded the region, following the creek up into the Rockies in search of larger gold deposits.
Golden quickly became a commercial and agricultural center, supplying those heading out into the mountains. Before Colorado was a state, Golden was even the capital of the Colorado Territory.

Today, Golden is home to the world-famous Coors Brewing Company, the prestigious Colorado School of Mines, and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
