Midhope Castle

Midhope Castle is Lallybroch , the ancestral home of Jamie Fraser. Jamie sets up home here with Claire in the first season of Outlander .
Midhope Castle, a 16th-century tower house, is used as Lallybroch (also known as Broch Tuarach) in Outlander . Left to Jamie by his parents, Brian and Ellen, Lallybroch is also home to Jamie’s sister, Jenny, her husband Ian Murray and their children. Since Lallybroch is an important part of the Outlander story, much use is made of Midhope Castle in season 7 which is due for broadcast in June .

Linlithgow Palace ( Wentworth prison )This royal pleasure palace and birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots became the backdrop for some of the most harrowing scenes of the show. Depicted as Wentworth Prison, the prison corridors and entrance were used in episode 15 of the first series when Jamie Fraser was brutally incarcerated by his adversary, Black Jack Randall. Built by King James V in the 1400s , the now-ruined palace is set among the spectacular surrounds of Linlithgow Loch and Peel. The tour spends up to an hour at each location .

Doune Castle

Doune Castle was built in 1400  and provides the setting for Castle Leoch in Outlander.
Blackness Castle goes back to 1440 . The castle provides the setting for Fort William, as the original fort no longer exists.

Falkland village in Fife is the location for Inverness in the first episodes of Outlander . Jamie sees Claire from the Bruce Fountain in Falkland. Claire buys a vase in a shop in Inverness in episode one , season one

Culross is Cranesmuir in Outlander. Culross Palace was used for interior scenes and the herb garden was the location for Castle Leoch garden. A ticket is required for entry to the palace ( not included )
