Portrush Game of Thrones Filming Locations Tour

Game of Thrones Tour. Visit 6 of the Filming locations used in the making of this fantastic series including Downhill Strand, Dark Hedges, Ballintoy Harbour, Dunluce Castle( house of Greyjoy), Cushendun Caves and the Quarry at Larrybane. This tour lasts 7 hours, people should be of medium fitness, wear suitable clothing and good footwear, some of the surfaces are uneven and can be slippery so caution is advised. You will recognise many of the scenes from the program, a super day out. We will be stopping for lunch for approx 1 hour and facilities are available at most of the locations, you may if you wish bring a pack lunch but don't forget the cameras!!

Downhill Beach

Sea Coast Road, Castlerock, BT51 4RH

The filming took place on the beach itself. The cliff with the Mussenden Temple on top was digitally altered into Dragonstone castle.

The Dark Hedges

After Ned Stark's death, Arya flees King's Landing, travelling north on the Kingsroad in the back of a cart. Disguised as a boy, she joins her companions Yoren, Gendry and Hot Pie who are on their way to join the Night's Watch (Season 2, Episode 1: The North Remembers).

Ballintoy Harbour

Harbour Rd, Ballintoy, BT54 6NA

After years in captivity, Theon Greyjoy returns to his homeland of Pyke in order to forge an alliance between the House of Stark and his father, Balon Greyjoy, Lord of the Iron Islands. As he sails into Lordsport Harbour, his reception is, shall we say, rather cold (Season 2, Episode 2: The Night Lands).The beach next to the wharf features in the scene, where Theon is baptised by the Priest of the Drowned God (Season 2, Episode 2: The Night Lands).
Ballintoy was also used in Season 4, with several of King Stannis's bannermen being burnt alive due to their refusal to abandon their worship of the Seven Gods (Season 4, Episode 2: The Lion and the Rose).
Other scenes filmed at Ballintoy Beach include the funeral of Balon Greyjoy after he was killed by his brother Euron (Season 6, Episode 2: Home), and Yara and Theon's escape from the Iron Islands (Season 6, Episode 5: The Door).

Caves of Cushendun

Cushendun

Cushendun has long been safe harbour for seafarers, centuries before the village with the same name was established at the mouth of the River Dun. The nearby caves, easily accessible by foot, were formed over 400 million years ago. Below Storms End , the caves was where Melisandra gives birth to the dark shadow.

Larrybane Quarry

Ballycastle, BT54 6LS

Larrybane offers magnificent views and its limestone cliffs make this part of the coastline one of the most picturesque spots in North Antrim. The disused limestone quarry at Larrybane was chosen as the location for Renly Baratheon's camp in Season 2, Episode 3: What is Dead May Never Die.
