Bourton-on-the-Water

Its history started in the Iron Age with the building of a settlement to the east of the village of which remains can still be seen today Salmondsbury Camp. Evidence of Roman occupation has been found near to where the Roman Foss Way joins the River Windrush.
Bourton-on-the-Water at the heart of the Cotswolds, is famed for its five stone bridges. Dating from between 1654 and 1911, the bridges are constructed from local Cotswold stone and give the village its byname of 'Venice of the Cotswolds.
