Hawkshead is a charming medieval village full of narrow alleys and characterful squares. It is home to a grammar school which was established back in 1585 and where the famous English poet, William Wordsworth went to school. Overlooking the village on a hill, you can also find St Michael and All Angels Church, that has been there since 16th century. Whilst we're talking about Hawkshead we also must mention the delicious Hawkshead Relish Company, which is definitely worth a visit! Hawkshead is a village where you get a real sense of history and it is a great place to explore, which is why we include it in so many of our tours.

Hawkshead Grammar School in Hawkshead, Cumbria, England was founded in 1585 by Archbishop Edwin Sandys, of York, who petitioned a charter from Queen Elizabeth I to set up a governing body. The early School taught Latin, Greek and sciences, including arithmetic and geometry.

After admiring the views, the tour will then take you to the final stop which is a trip to Hawkshead.

Driving through the Langdale’s you will experience some spectacular views, including views of the Langdale Pikes. The Langdale Pikes are iconic and the most easily recognisable peaks in the Lake District. The Langdale’s are where you will usually find many native Herdwick Sheep, as they stroll across road and lay out in the fields, it really is a fantastic photo opportunity.

Hill Top, Beatrix Potter's House

Famous lakeland home of Beatrix Potter. (The property is not open Fridays outside of the UK school holidays or between November - February). When Hill Top is closed we will visit the World Of Beatrix Potter in Bowness to learn more about the author and the characters she created.

Your electronic tickets and vouchers will be sent to you 7 days prior to your scheduled departure date via email (or, if booked within one week then within 24 hours of booking). We would recommend arriving at Euston Station 30 minutes before your scheduled train departure
Please note that the train journey is unescorted. On arrival at Oxenholme station in the Lake District you you will be met by your tour guide and start your Lake District guided tour

Hill Top House, home of Beatrix Potter, is not open Fridays outside of the UK school holidays or between November - February. When Hill Top is closed we will visit the World Of Beatrix Potter in Bowness.
Hill Top Farm is closed for winter From 1st November 2024 to 15th February 2025. This tour visits the World of Beatrix Potter during this time.
