Blake, Defoe & Street Poetry WorkshopDesigned and delivered by an award-winning novelist with a PhD in Creative Writing, these tours use London's rich literary history as a prompt for a series of writing exercises, designed to suit all levels of expertise, from novice to novelist.
The tour combines literary history and anecdotes of the city with readings from major English writers, but it is not a passive experience: you will respond to the environment in creative ways, in an atmosphere of kindness and inclusivity. These intimate and unique workshop seek to inspire and invigorate.

We meet on the green in Bunhill Fields Burial Ground.
You will need a notebook, at least one pen and an umbrella (just in case!)
What to expect:

We meet in Bunhill Fields cemetery, a short walk from Old Street underground. We are introduced to the grave of William Blake and use his visionary poetry as a prompt for our first writing exercise.

Barbican Centre

Next, we head to The Barbican, discover street poetry and create our own collaborative response.

Church of St. Bartholomew the Great
West Smithfield, Barbican, London, EC1A 9DS
We then follow in the footsteps of Daniel Defoe's Moll Flanders, reading about her criminal adventures in and around Smithfields.

St. Giles Cripplegate
Fore and Wood Streets, London Wall, London, EC2
Our final stop is St Giles' Cripplegate, where our exercises are brought together for a final piece in the extraordinary surroundings of the church, resting place of Defoe and John Milton
