Why We Love This Unique Experience

London Experience Gifts: Take a tour through London's most prestigious menswear with an expert guide, during this 2 - 4 hour shopping experience! You'll learn the history of men's fashion, from the 17th century through to today.

You will choose the length of your tour in advance, between 2 - 4 hours. Meet your guide in St. James's, and from there, they'll take you on a journey through time and London's best menswear. You'll browse the legendary tailors of Jermyn Street and Savile Row, and learn how they have spent years perfecting the men's suit to fit like a glove. Your guide will take you through the history of menswear, starting with the three-piece suit worn by Charles II in the 17th century, via the fashion of the Teddy Boys, Mods, and Punks, right through to the menswear of today. Along the way, you'll explore St. James's, Covent Garden and Soho, and hopefully come away with some pieces that will be in your wardrobe for years to come.

This London Menswear History Tour is a great experience gift for the stylish gentleman in your life, or anyone interested in learning more about fashion history.

Experience Overview:

London Menswear Fashion History And Shopping Tour

We take you from the beginnings of the three-piece suit worn by Charles II in the seventeenth century, through wild doings of the eighteenth century and its macaronis, to Beau Brummell and a cast of Victorian dandies in the nineteenth century, on into the rebellions and classy revivals of the 20th century, including Oxford bags, Zoot suits, the new Edwardians, the Teddy Boys, the Mods, Rockers, the Mod revival, Punks, the New Romantics and right up to date in the ever changing world of streetwear, workwear and leisure wear.

We begin in St. James's and spend enough time in Jermyn Street and the tailoring houses of Savile Row to ground ourselves in the history and structure of the suit. We then move to Soho and Covent Garden, and all along the way, we visit fabulous shops whose clothes, colognes and shoes are rich in history and craftsmanship.

We chat with staff members wherever possible and are happy to explore some men's vintage wear and discuss how to make it look fresh and contemporary. You will come away confident that a sense of classic style remains as vital as ever and that the best clothes are made to last and can be beautifully worn any decade, no matter the current fashions.

Organized by

Fashion Tours London

Beginning in March 2019, our first tours will be devoted to women’s fashion in Mayfair, as we seek to introduce our clients to designers they may never have heard of and to tell them more about the designers they already know. We will both go off the beaten path and trod down many of the most well-known streets in Mayfair, dripping with famous names now and from decades past. We will conjure up the ghosts of designers like Charles James, Norman Hartnell, and Jean Muir; we will consider the turn-of-the-century brilliance of Lucile and other court dressmakers who decorated the debutantes, as well as the great tailoring house of Redfern, whose sporting suits gave women excitingly new freedom.
