The town is littered with locations and names which Dickens drew on for inspiration throughout his career, featuring many of them in his fifteen novels, five novellas and hundreds of short stories, most notably ‘The Pickwick Papers’, ‘Great Expectations’, ‘The Seven Poor Travellers’ and his last – and unfinished – work, ‘The Mystery of Edwin Drood’.
