This five hour sail aboard the tallship Moonfleet is one of the best ways to explore this unique body of water and see the Dorset coastline from the water.
The adventure begins at Portland Harbour where you will meet the friendly captain and crew as your board the tall ship. You will then sail along the Jurassic coast and enjoy views of Durdle Door as you travel across Weymouth Bay. When it’s time for lunch, the captain will drop anchor in the cove. Throughout the sail you can learn about the ship and lend a hand by hoisting the mainsail or even taking the helm! Moonfleet Adventure Sailing is an exciting new activity making its home in Dorset and operating from Portland Harbour. Moonfleet, founded in 2015, have made it their mission to bring a tall-ship sailing opportunity to Dorset that isn't exclusive by availability or cost.
Moonfleet aims to provide an affordable range of sailing introductions that are available throughout an extended season (Mar - Nov), whenever the weather allows, and therefore provide a tall-ship sailing experience at a time and price that suits you! No previous sailing experience is necessary and no special clothing or equipment is required - just dress sensibly for the weather!
The sailing introduction is all based around a ‘toe in the water’ experience, where you can have a go at the skills and activities needed to take a tall-ship to sea and learn how to harness the power of the wind. For those keen to have a go, our crew will provide a supervised hands on opportunity to try most activities that can be fitted into the short voyage, from weighing anchor to hoisting the mainsail - and even taking the helm! However, if you just want to come along for the ride, then be our guest – sit back and enjoy the sail and the views!
Passengers must bring their own snacks, lunch and beverages along.
Sunscreen and sun hats are reccomended.
All ticket sales are final and not refundable. Reservations cannot be changed, rescheduled or refunded once confirmed. Reservations may be re-scheduled by the operator of the activity due to reasons such as weather, minimum participation requirements, mechanical issues or other interruptions beyond their control.

Moonfleet Adventure Sail Training
The Moonfleet sails daily from Portland Marina in Dorset, out into Weymouth Bay and to remarkable destinations along Dorset's beautiful coastline! Treat yourself to a day at sea sailing our classic Tallship, Moonfleet! The Moonfleet is a steel hulled Gaff Cutter, a 1930s tall ship robustly built by the great seafaring people of Holland. During her early working life she would take cargo from Amsterdam to her neighbouring countries on The North Sea - possibly even Great Britain! After her time carrying cargo, around the turn of the century she was given a major refit in Urk, a small fishing and shipbuilding town on Holland’s inland waterways. Here she was converted to be a Sail Training Vessel and operated as such from Amsterdam for the next decade. Following a minor refit at Mashford’s Shipyard on the River Tamar in Cornwall, Moonfleet is now based in Portland Harbour and is again used to introduce this classic skill to budding sailors of all ages.
