Staff Review: Classic Chocolate Workshop in London

Caly and I were extremely excited to get hands-on, making our own sweet treats from scratch at the My Chocolate venue in London.

Before The Chocolate Making Experience

When we arrived outside the studio, the other participants were all gathered there too, eager to get started! It was really encouraging to see so many people of all ages joining us – it felt welcoming for everybody. When the start time was nearing, everybody made their way into the building and found a seat at a table.

The interior was very spacious and there was plenty of room to place any belongings and enough wiggle room for us.

During The Chocolate Workshop

Before the experience began, we were supplied with all the necessary tools for the workshop ahead. It was time to suit up and secure our aprons which ensured that we didn’t overspill any of the melted chocolate – reminder to not wear anything white! The briefing by the friendly instructor began as we were informed of what was to come during this chocolate making workshop. Let me tell you, a lot of chocolate was on the itinerary.

First things first, it was time to create our own chocolate slab. This consisted of a thin layer of either dark or milk chocolate, with the option of drizzles and sprinkles to top it off. You could also shape the slab any way that you’d like, so I of course went for a heart – the hopeless romantic that I am. At the forefront of my mind was giving a gift to my boyfriend – so the stakes were high not to mess this up!

After realising how much of a delicate process this is, my heart was slightly misshapen - but still made with love. I then topped off my chocolate slab with an attempt at an arrow shape consisting of honeycomb bites. However, this once again didn’t look the way I’d hoped – but real love powered through. Even though my chocolate slab would never be sold in a shop, I was proud of my work!

The second part of the workshop focussed was on creating our own truffle chocolates, which intrigued us - mostly because we truly weren’t entirely sure how these were created in the first place. After a detailed explanation, we were told that we had to pipe chocolate out of an icing bag but with the addition of speed. This was to prevent the chocolate from melting too much, which would ruin the truffle!

It was safe to say that Caly was the true chocolatier, with much more precision when it came to shaping the truffle chocolates. Nonetheless, we both enjoyed this process of creativity, and the best part was decorating each chocolate. I opted for the honeycomb bites, AGAIN, as I just knew they were going to be the most in-demand topping. I also rolled the honeycomb within the chocolate truffle to infuse some further taste!

After the experience

Upon conclusion of this classic chocolate workshop, we were allowed to take our homemade treats with us back to Brighton. With all of that travelling, they needed a comfortable place to be contained, so My Chocolate supplied us with plenty of gift-wrapping choices! I thought this was a delicate touch to create that special gift to give to a loved one. I can only recommend this as a day out that you must try.

Thanks to the team at My Chocolate for having us.

Thanks for reading!

This workshop is an experience gift perfect for all ages, and those with a sweet tooth - so why not check it out!
