At-Home Afternoon Tea with Piglet's Pantry

Although this at-home afternoon tea wasn’t like any other afternoon tea experience I have had before, we have to improvise in these lockdown times, so I was still going to get out my afternoon tea stand and enjoy it with my sister. We didn’t quite get dressed up like we normally would when going for an afternoon tea, but it was a lovely afternoon spending time together and indulging in some delicious treats.

I got a text from the delivery service letting me know a time slot that my afternoon tea from Piglets Pantry was going to be delivered, which was great so I didn’t have to wait around all day for it. When it arrived, I couldn’t wait to open it up and take a look inside. The afternoon tea was a box inside a larger box that was surrounded by cool bags in order to keep the food fresh, which I thought was a great idea as the boxes might have to travel far.

When opening the box, it had a cute quote on the front saying, ‘When you buy from us, an actual person does a happy little dance’. This made me feel as if I was supporting a small business and that they were really grateful! Also, all the packaging could be recycled which was great, as there was quite a lot of it with the cooling bags and 2 large boxes.

The afternoon tea box came with quiches, scotch eggs, sausage rolls (2 with caramelised onion and cheese and 2 plain ones), tea bags, scones, jam, clotted cream, carrot cake, blueberry cake and a chocolate and orange cake. This was the perfect size afternoon tea for 2 people, which cost £35 for the box and delivery.

There were instructions on how to serve the food, so I heated the sausage rolls, scotch eggs and scones in the oven. I could tell that all the food was fresh and homemade, which made it that bit more special than shop-bought food. However, in case there was any food leftover there were instructions on how to re-cook it if you wanted to freeze it for a later date.

Who would have thought that me and my sister would find something to argue about over our afternoon tea experience…? Well, there sure was. To this day we still disagree, but I will always put the cream on the bottom and the jam on top of my scone, however she does it the other way around (wrong). You have to admit the jam looks so much prettier and presentable on the top!

My personal favourites were the caramelised onion and cheese sausage roll, and the orange and chocolate cake, which tasted exactly like a Jaffa Cake.

Thanks for reading!

I would like to thank the team at Piglets Pantry for sending me a delicious afternoon tea box, which I could share with my sister and enjoy at home . However, I do believe that £35 for an afternoon tea box is slightly on the pricey side, but this does include delivery. The food was all homemade, so you have to consider the time it took Piglets Pantry to make.
