You will admire the amazing monumental complex of Piazza del Duomo also called Campo dei Miracoli that encloses the famous Leaning Tower, the Cathedral, the Baptistry and the Monumental Cemetery. The latter is considered a holy place because it was created around a layer of earth some crusaders brought away from Mount Golgotha close to Jerusalem. You will walk along the Lungarno enjoying the sight of palaces, towers and churches and you will get to Piazza dei Cavalieri with the beautiful Palazzo della Carovana and Palazzo dell’Orologio, splendid examples of the Renaissance architecture. When you see the mural Tuttomondo” on the south wall of the church of Saint Anthony, painted by Keith Haring in 1989, you will come back from the Renaissance period to not long ago. Hopefully, you will have enough time to taste some local food, such as the traditional soup with frogs or the delicious torta co’ bischeri”, the most well-known cake of Pisa. You will see Piazza dell’Anfiteatro, a unique elliptical-shaped square built upon some remains of a 2nd-century Roman arena. You will visit several churches and basilicas of different ages and climb up the 207 steps of the Torre delle Ore, from where you will enjoy a great view and will see how the 16th-century wind-up clock placed on the tower works. This is one of the most interesting and still functioning examples of clocks in Europe.
