Rowley--Ghost Town

Town of Rowely, Starland County, Rowley

Rowley, Alberta, or ‘Rowleywood’ is an extraordinary preserved rural Alberta ghost town with an official population of 12. This was a bustling Southern Alberta prairie town, with over 500 flourishing residents. But due to the devastating blow of the Great Depression, most residents abandoned the town and the once-thriving crops dried up due to lack of rain, leaving the place desolate and empty of any life. Part of Rowley’s charm is that while locals have spent thousands of dollars fixing up many of the old community’s homes and buildings to reflect the town’s pioneer days, there are still many others left abandoned, and offer ghost towners wonderful photo opportunities .
