Calypso Star Charters is honoured to be fully licensed by the South Australian Department of Environment. We are also privileged to be the only one day operator permitted by the Fisheries Department to use natural fish berley to attract the Great White Sharks to our boat at the Neptune Islands Marine Park. The use of berley gives us the highest chance of sighting sharks and productive interaction close to our vessel and cage, resulting in a memorable encounter and wonderful photographic opportunities both inside the cage and from the boat.
Along with our license to berley in Australian waters, we are proud to be Advanced Eco Certified and a Climate Action Leader.
Return transfers are provided at the cost of $15 per person from most accommodation places.
Travel time to the Neptune Islands is approximately 3 hours, and we do travel through open ocean. We STRONGLY recommend you take travel sickness medication as a precaution, taking one the night before your charter and one again the morning of before arrival at the Marina.
Morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, cappuccino and filtered water included. Soft drinks and bottled water are available for purchase throughout the day. As a licensed vessel the bar opens on the way home with beer, cider, wine and champagne available for purchase.
We have often had Great Whites around the boat before dropping the anchor. Groups enter our new spacious cage up to 8 at a time leaving plenty of room for prime shark viewing! Once the sharks arrive each group will have the opportunity to experience cage diving face to face with the amazing Great White Shark. Please note that the cage diving time can vary and will depend on the shark activity and weather on the day.
View these marvellous creatures through the crystal clear water that surrounds the Neptune Islands. While you aren't in the water you don't miss out, the action from the very spacious upper and lower decks is fantastic. Keep your camera on hand for those prime photographic opportunities.
Activity FAQs
When is the best time to come and dive with the sharks?
As we are dealing with a nomadic creature in its natural environment, we cannot suggest when would be the best time to join us as each year can be different.
Price includes the use of 7mm wetsuit, hood, boots, gloves and mask.
The price of the tour is the same for all guests as when a shark is sighted, everyone on board has the opportunity to view the shark, not just those in the cage. The team encourage all guests to dive in the shark cage and respect the wishes of those who prefer to watch from the boat. If a shark isn’t sighted, all guests receive a discounted return ticket as part of our No Shark Policy.
Please note:
- Groups up to 8 at a time enter the spacious cage (the largest in Australia).
- Sharks are in their natural environment, they are free to come and go as they please. The crew strive to ensure all groups get a similar experience in the cage, based on shark interaction so the actual time does vary between the groups.
- Please remember that the day isn’t just about being in the cage as there is also ample viewing opportunity from on board the vessel while waiting for your turn to dive.
- As well as breakfast, the team provide you with morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, plus coffee/tea and filtered water, all included. Soft drinks and bottled water are available for purchase on-board.
- MV Calypso Star II is a fully licensed vessel so the bar is open on the way home for your convenience.
- Due to the nature of the activity , the team cannot guarantee the exact time you will return to the Marina at the end of the day. The return is subject to weather conditions and shark activity.
- Every effort will be made on the day to give everyone the opportunity to sight sharks, even if this means staying on site for additional time. Generally the boat will return around 6pm - 9pm.
Guests are therefore required to stay a minimum of two nights in Port Lincoln, the night before and the night of the charter, to ensure you do not miss any flights.
Age Restrictions:
- Children under the age of 8 are only allowed to enter the water at the Skippers discretion on the day.
- All children under the age of 16 require adult supervision at all times.
- If they are in the water their supervising adult is required to also be in the water at all times. If the child or the adult exit the water the adult or the child will also be required to do so.
- Any guest under the age of 18 needs to have their waiver form signed by a parent or guardian.
All ticket sales are final and not refundable. Reservations cannot be changed, rescheduled or refunded once confirmed. Reservations may be re-scheduled by the operator of the activity due to reasons such as weather, minimum participation requirements, mechanical issues or other interruptions beyond their control.
All gift certificate sales are final and not refundable. Gift certificates can only be exchanged prior to redemption.
