FAQ

Activity FAQs

Can I bring someone who is under 21/a baby?

No. Unfortunately all crawlers must be at least 21 years old with proper identification. This is because of the strict blue law in Massachusetts.

What does the tour cover (what history do we learn)?

Our guides teach you the history that your 8th grade Social Studies teacher left out, all while visiting 4 historic Boston pubs. The guides share stories of how beer shaped our history from the landing on Plymouth Rock to the start of the Revolution.

What is a pub tour/crawl?

The term "pub crawl" originated in England where small pubs and taverns are within walking distance of one another. Party-goers could go from one tavern to the next, stopping for one drink at each establishment. You can imagine that by the end of the evening, some of the folks were "crawling" rather than walking! On a Boston Crawling Pub Crawl you will visit 4 historic pubs and drink local craft beer as your guide entertains you with stories of Boston's hidden past. Cheers!

Are drinks included on the pub crawl?

We offer two different ticket options. The Dry Run Package includes the tour but crawlers are responsible for purchasing their own drinks directly from the bars. The Happy Hour Package  includes the tour along with 4 local craft beers on tap (1 at each pub we visit). You can choose any beer offered on tap with the Happy Hour Package. Wine and mixed drinks are not included in the Happy Hour Package.

Do you have to be 21+ years old to crawl?

Yes, you must be 21+ years old with valid ID to attend the pub crawl. Everyone's ID will be checked at the start of the crawl so please make sure you have a valid ID on your person. Valid ID's include only US State Driver Licenses, Military IDs, and Passports. Foreign driver's licenses are not accepted. Therefore, if you're traveling from outside of Boston, please be sure to bring your passport with you to the crawl.

How far will I be walking?

The Freedom Trail Pub Crawl takes place in Boston's famous Faneuil Hall District. The walking distance is limited in this downtown area. All stops are within a few blocks of each other.

What happens if it rains when my tour is scheduled?

We crawl rain or shine, so don't worry we will get you that beer and history! In the event of rain, we will still meet at The Sam Adams Statue in front of Faneuil Hall and get you quickly into the first pub.

Can we bring our own booze or carry cocktails from bar to bar?

No, you cannot bring your own alcoholic drinks on the crawl. Massachusetts has pretty strict Blue Laws and it is against the law to have open containers or to bring outside alcoholic drinks into an establishment. But don't worry, the pubs we visit offer a terrific selection of drinks and we spend 98% of the crawl inside the pubs..

Should I tip my crawl guide?

Gratuity is not required, but if you enjoy your pub crawl, we ask that you show your appreciation through a tip in the amount of your choosing.

What is a koosie?

It's like a jacket for your beer! Our Souvenir Koosies are the perfect way to remember your trip to Boston every time you enjoy a cold one from a can. Made from Premium Neoprene, our Koosies keep your beer cold and your hands warm and dry.

Meeting spot and directions?

Each Pub Crawl meets at the Samuel Adams statue in front of Faneuil Hall. The following MBTA stops are a short walk to Faneuil Hall: Green Line to Government Center, Orange Line to State Street, Blue Line to State Street, Red Line to Park Street, and Commuter Rail to North Station.

Where do I park?

Parking is available near the meeting location.

May I smoke on the pub crawl?

Feel free to smoke while we are walking between pubs. Massachusetts law, however, prohibits smoking inside the pubs.

Is the tour wheelchair accessible?

Yes, the crawl is wheelchair accessible. Just a heads up, however, that we do walk along some cobblestone and brick pathways that are uneven.

Are restrooms available along the tour?

Yup! Each pub we visit will have restrooms.

Where History Meets Beer

It was the summer of 2010 and I found myself on a platform in Prague waiting for my train to Munich. I was alone. I only had a few euros to my name. I didn't even know where I was going to sleep that night.

And I was psyched.

You see, I am constantly in search of Life’s Next Great Adventure. I've studied in Australia, worked in Yellowstone National Park, and driven across the United States coast-to-coast. So backpacking through Europe seemed like the next logical step. I had just concluded my first year of law school which wrapped up with a month of classes at Charles University in Prague. It was time to explore.

I then spent the next 2 ½ months roaming through Europe. I visited more than 20 cities across 12 countries. While I enjoyed each city, all good times are not created equal.

The cities I enjoyed most were the ones that offered sightseeing pub crawls.

Why pub crawls? Because they allowed me to meet fellow backpackers from all over the world, learn some hidden history, and, of course, sample the local brews.

Good times, hidden history, and cold drinks. That is why I started Boston Crawling. I want visitors to Boston to experience the same excitement, fun, and laughter that I did while in those pub crawl cities.

So come have a pint or two on Boston Crawling’s version of Life’s Next Great Adventure.

Cheers!
